Meribel is incredibly well connected and easily accessed making the journey to the slopes straightforward. You’re spoilt for choice with 3 airports near Meribel, France, all less than 200km away: Lyon, Grenoble and Chambery. While Geneva airport might seem like the most obvious choice, Chambery airport is actually the closest, only 95km away. Lyon airport, 180km away may be a better option though, as it offers a greater number of international flights.

A taxi from Geneva to Meribel costs between €360 and €400 with a journey time of around 1 hour 50 minutes.

Moutiers train station is only 24km away, and the journey from Geneva takes around 4 hours 40 minutes, with fares from €85 to €173. Private transfers will take you on to Meribel in no time at all.

Car hire is available at the airport. The drive from the airport involves mountain roads, especially the final section, so winter tyres or snow chains are recommended during the ski season. Remember to check in advance what parking facilities are available at your accommodation as it can be tricky to find a spot during busy times of the year.

Getting around in Meribel is incredibly easy as the villages and resorts are linked by the free Meribus service, not to mention the gondola lifts and walking paths. The Meribus service operates 7 days a week, running from early in the morning to midnight during the winter and summer seasons. Its 3 interconnected lines all call at la Chaudanne and Méribel centre and run every 15-20 minutes. So, no need to hire a car!

A fantastic location, access to the world’s largest ski area, guaranteed snow, a huge range of snowsports, family-friendly, quick and easy access, an abundance of alternative activities… we could go on, but you get the idea.

Meribel opens for the winter season in early December, with the season running until late April, depending on snow conditions. Christmas and New Year tend to be busy and February is always extremely busy because of school holidays. January is a well-kept secret though, with excellent snow conditions and bluebird days alongside empty slopes and no lift queues.

Meribel ski resort itself is exceptionally big, with around 150km of piste and 1852m vertical drop. Of course, there are more than four times that lift-linked together in the wider Three Valleys ski area.

With over 85% of the ski area above 1800m, snow is pretty much guaranteed.

Meribel is great for beginners to learn how to ski or snowboard with gentle slopes, dedicated beginner areas and excellent ski schools. With 2 separate nursery areas, 8 green and 24 blue pistes, there’s plenty of space for you to improve your technique.

Meribel is one of the best ski destinations for intermediate skiers. Few resorts offer mile upon mile of immaculately groomed pistes that challenge skiers and snowboarders.

The longest piste in the Meribel valley, Combe du Vallon, is a legendary red run. Long, technical and demanding, it is 3.2km with a vertical drop of 1000m.

Lifts usually start to close at around 4:20, although the exact time varies for each lift. After February, lifts stay open for half an hour longer. Check the exact closing times for each lift at the lift stations.

There are 2 main ski passes to choose from. The Meribel pass is the cheaper, local pass, offering access to 150km of local pistes, suitable for beginners. The Three Valleys pass offers access to the entire ski area, offering access to 600km of slopes from Courchevel to Val Thorens and everywhere in between.

Meribel is a vibrant yet family-friendly resort, with pubs and lounges and a growing apres scene. Whether you’re in the mood for dancing, live music or cocktails by the fire, Meribel has something for everyone.

Whatever you’re after, Meribel won’t disappoint. With a lively apres-ski scene, vibrant bars and pubs, and plenty of spots to dance the night away, you’ll find whatever you’re looking for.

Absolutely! We recommend La Rond Point for live bands, L’Igloo for an energetic vibe and La Taverne for great drinks and great music. L’abreuvoir mixes up some fabulous cocktails, as does Barometer’s cocktails. And if clubbing is your scene, then no visit to Meribel is complete without dancing into the wee small hours at Sully’s.

Meribel is more mid-range and budget-friendly compared to Courchevel.

100%. Méribel is one of our first choices for family ski holidays thanks to its welcoming atmosphere, easier slopes and excellent ski schools.

Méribel is well-known for its charming, traditional chalets. Deciding where to stay largely depends on budget, proximity to the slopes and atmosphere. You can find a range of accommodation types from luxury chalets to budget hotels.

That all depends on what you want. For ski-in ski-out accommodation, then Meribel Centre has the best access to the slopes. If you want to party, the buzzing apres-ski action can be found in Meribel Centre, although there are bars in the other villages too. And if you want luxury, then Meribel Village is for you. Generally, the closer to the slopes, the more expensive the accommodation.

Some of our top tips include La Table de l’Ours with its cosy setting and refined French dishes, Le Cro Magnon for traditional Savoyard cuisine and welcoming atmosphere, and Le 80 for its diverse menu. With over 80 restaurants, from Michelin-starred to relaxed fine dining to family restaurants, there’s something to suit all appetites.

Expect to pay around €6-€8 unless you hit the bars at happy hour.
