Myrkdalen Fjellandsby is a modern ski resort in Voss, Western Norway. It receives some of the highest snowfall in Europe and features mostly wide, treeless slopes.
## Mountain culture & milestones
The resort is relatively new. The first lift opened in 2003, shifting the valley’s focus from agriculture to winter sports. The Myrkdalen Hotel opened in 2012, creating a central base area. In 2020, the resort merged with Aurland Ressursutvikling to join the Norway’s Best Group.

The resort is compact. Most accommodation sits directly at the main base.

## The mountain & skiing
Myrkdalen has 34.5 km of groomed slopes and a 610-metre vertical drop. The terrain is wide and mostly above the tree line. The piste map heavily favours beginners and intermediates, consisting mostly of green and blue runs.
Advanced skiers can use a few red and black pistes, such as the steep Bygardsløypo run. The resort has three terrain parks and a ski cross slope.
The area receives between 5 and 7 metres of snow annually. This heavy snowfall and the easy access to unpisted terrain directly from the lifts draw many freeriders.
## The village & après-ski
The Myrkdalen Fjellandsby base area is modern and purpose-built. The Myrkdalen Hotel is the main hub, housing restaurants, bars, and a playroom. The village also contains apartment complexes, a sports shop, and ski rental facilities. The atmosphere is quiet and focused on families.
## Snow & season
A coastal microclimate brings heavy snow to Myrkdalen, making it one of Europe’s most reliable resorts for snow cover. The season usually lasts from late November until early May.
## Summer & year-round
During summer, visitors use the area for hiking and fishing. The western fjords are a short drive away. The resort recently built dedicated mountain bike trails and a 700-square-metre pump track next to the hotel.
## Safety & mountain etiquette
Because of the heavy snowfall and popular off-piste areas, skiers leaving the marked runs need avalanche awareness. The resort maintains a training area where freeriders can practice using avalanche transceivers.
## Who it suits best
Families and beginners benefit from the dedicated children’s areas and wide, gentle slopes. Freeriders come for the reliable powder and easy off-piste access. Advanced skiers who want long, challenging pistes will likely find the area too small.
