Whatever your choice in airports, you’re spoilt. The nearest main airport to Courchevel is Chambery, which has a transfer time of around 1 hour. But, at 182km away from Chamonix, Grenoble airport is underrated as an option. And Lyon airport offers quick and dependable access to Courchevel, with good road connections.

The private Courchevel altiport means helicopter transfers are possible — and the ultimate luxury arrival.

Courchevel is connected to France by well-maintained, toll-paying autoroutes. The quickest route is the A1-A41- A40 motorway route, which takes just over an hour. It’s quite straight until Moûtiers and then the road becomes twisty as you travel to the resort. The peak of winter is the time when drivers have to exercise caution as the roads may prove to be a threat.

This is gaining in popularity with travellers to Courchevel, which has great connections between the major airports and train stations. The nearest train station is at Moûtiers, just 20km from Courchevel itself, so you can get a transfer and arrive there in under half an hour.

Once you get there, you’ll discover that you won’t actually need a car. Free shuttle services between the various villages allow you to travel easily from place to place without having to worry about parking

The two closest cities are Turin and Grenoble.

January to March is peak season for Courchevel sporting excellent snowfalls. February is typically the high season peak.

It’s all about what you want to sell. It’s an ideal romantic weekend escape, but with access to such a sprawling ski area, filling a week would be easy, too.

Courchevel stays open until late April with lots of snow and most lifts turning. In the final fortnight, the far lower slopes may be closed if it gets too warm. However, with 85 percent of slopes at high altitudes, there’s no shortage of skiing to be done

Courchevel excels with north-facing slopes and high altitudes that keep it snow-sure late into the season. Oh, and don’t forget it has some of the most up-to-date snow making facilities as well as world-class snow groomers on hand too.

First-timers and novice skiers will have no shortage of gentle slants on which to hone their techniques — there are a few easily reached green slopes.

Beyond its glamorous reputation, Courchevel’s high altitude and snow-sure slopes mean it is also popular as a solid ski resort. The entire area is fully linked up with gondolas, chairlifts and cable cars, meaning you can access all of the above resorts without ever needing to take a bus.

If you don’t ski, or if you just want to take a break from skiing, you won’t be bored. For thrill-seekers, gentler relaxation, nature lovers, the snow fun without the skis is plentiful in Courchevel.

Best for beginner boarders: Courchevel 1850. Courchevel has no shortage of intermediate slopes and plenty of off-piste and powder, though, with access to the biggest ski area in the world. And for the freestylers, your ski pass gives you access to the snow parks throughout the ski area.

With hotels from 2* up to uber-luxury, cozy traditional chalets, comfy apartments or lodges to high-end palatial hotel-type accommodation, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to hotels in Courchevel with something for every budget range.

Then you have the 6 villages that all vary a bit and have their own different flavor. Saint-Bon retains the original charm of Courchevel as a ski resort. The neighbouring village of La Tania is less scenic but offers much in terms of modern accommodation and a car-free village. If you’re after a chocolate box place with genuine rustic charm, Le Praz is THE place. Courchevel Village is a peaceful sanctuary removed from the chaos. The family-friendly Moriond, but also good apres-ski in the evenings. And the ritzy jewel in the crown is Courchevel 1850, which oozes the glitz and glamour of a luxury destination.

In addition to the usual Christmas and New Year markets, or in February and early March, see colourful and flaming skies of Courchevel with the International Festival of Pyrotechnic Art each February and March. February is also when the world’s best skiers gather to compete at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

Thanks to its wealth of ski schools, off-slope activities and efficiency of on-slope access, Courchevel is certainly a family friendly ski destination. The lift pass is great value with loads of long, cruisy green and blue runs. Super links, free shuttles, car-free villages, family accommodation – all contribute to its family resort reputation. And don’t forget that it’s part of the ‘Famille Plus’ scheme.
