San Cassiano skiing: an overview

San Cassiano is part of a huge ski area called Dolomiti Superski, which has over 1,200km of slopes to explore. In San Cassiano itself, you’ve got about 130km of runs to enjoy.

The skiing here is good for everyone. Beginners will find plenty of easy slopes to learn on, especially around the Piz Sorega area. If you’re an intermediate skier, you’re in luck – most of the runs here are perfect for you. There are lots of blue and red slopes to cruise down, including a famous one called Gran Risa.

For the experts, there are some challenging black runs like Vallon-Boè and Foram. These are steep and exciting. If you like off-piste skiing, you can find some great spots too, but it’s best to go with a guide.

The resort is split into three main areas: Piz Sorega, Piz la Ila, and Lagazuoi. You can get to all of them easily from the town. Plus, you can easily ski to other nearby resorts if you want a change of scene.

San Cassiano offers more than just skiing. You can go snowshoeing through quiet forests or try sledding for some fun. Ice skating is available in nearby Corvara if you want a change of pace. There’s a great event called ‘Sommelier on the slopes’ where you ski between spots on the mountain, tasting local wines. A ski instructor and wine expert guide you along. For indoor options, there’s tennis, swimming, and even horse riding in the area. So even if you’re not big on skiing, you’ll find plenty to do here in winter.

Things to do in San Cassiano village

San Cassiano offers plenty to do when you’re not skiing. Take a stroll through the village to soak up the mountain atmosphere and browse local shops for unique souvenirs. History enthusiasts should visit the Museum Ladin Ursus ladinicus to learn about the area’s past and see the fascinating cave bear exhibit.

For relaxation, head to a spa like the Alpine-SPA “Frëina”. You can swim, sauna, or get a massage while enjoying stunning mountain views. It’s a perfect way to unwind after a day outdoors.

For shopping and entertainment, check out La Vita e Bella Franz, a charming alpine shopping centre in the heart of the village. Here you can find everything from local cheese to high fashion brands, making it a great spot for both essentials and souvenirs.

Family-friendly and kids' fun in San Cassiano

San Cassiano is a hit with families. The ski area has lots of easy slopes that aren’t hard to get to. The local ski school is solid, with 35 instructors teaching everything from basic skiing to snowboarding. Near La Villa, there’s a playground for kids on Piz La Villa. They also have ski classes and a kindergarten for the little ones. For a change from skiing, try the 3.5km toboggan run from Piz Sorega. It’s a blast for older kids and adults. Remember to ask for an English-speaking instructor if you need one. Group lessons cost about the same as other places, but private lessons are a good deal here compared to some fancier resorts.
